Bank Account Requirements Documents

What documents should I prepare when I open a bank account in Greece?

The documents that you need to present to a branch of a Greek Bank are:

  • Valid Passport or ID Card.
  • A document which proves your home address (post code ,city), verified by the official authority  in your municipality.
  • A document which proves your profession and your work address (post code, city), verified by the Professional Association or other Official Organization.
  • A document which shows your yearly income.
  • An official document from your Tax Office which proves your tax residence.
  • A letter from your Bank (from which you are going to make the money transfer at the end) as a recommendation letter.
  • Greek Tax Number.
  • Copy of your telephone bill.

All the above documents, except Passport/ID ,TAX NO and telephone bill, must be translated and authenticated  by an official Greek Authority such a Greek Consulate or Greek Embassy or Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Translation Department in Athens, in order for the Bank to be able to accept them. The Bank needs the original documents for its record.

Please notice that if you are going to open an account in a Greek Bank, your presence is necessary. You would visit a branch and sign the relevant documentation yourself.

Furthermore, the minimum incoming amount to be transferred for the opening of the account is € 10.000 and the yearly average of your account’s balance must sustain a € 10.000 amount. Of course, if you transfer money, the order must have only your name as the sender and as the beneficiary as well, and at the details of the payment it should be written: for real estate purpose.
